Lately, I started feeling that I needed to get back on track when it comes to my hobbies. I noticed how I miss playing music, Dungeons and Dragons, and doing Yoga, Tai Chi Chuan and other cool stuff. On top of that, I realized that I’m 30 and changing my career path. I also need to exercise both mind and body and learn new things for my career and also for self-improvement.

TFW you realize how old you are now

My roommate, which also studies with me, is on the same page: trying to spend less time on Netflix and other passive entertainments, and spend the time in a better, more useful way.

That being said, I’m not usually a fan of huge sudden changes on one’s habits. For example, people who don’t exercise at all and try to go to the gym 1 hour a day tend to fail. Badly. That’s just because we can’t endure the changes long enough for them to stick. I’ve started slowly, but want to keep moving steadily towards a better routine.

I’m exercising again: after years of doing Yoga and Tai Chi Chuan, now at least I’m stretching and doing planks almost every day. And trying to wake up early enough to be able to to that before leaving for college. To be fair, many days I don’t have morning classes, but I still try to wake up around 7:30.

Another thing that I changed is that this Monday I borrowed a non-fiction book from my college’s library: Webs of Influence: The Psychology of Online Persuasion. Instead of reading fiction books on my way to college and back home, I’m reading this one, Linkedin posts and links (career and self improvement stuff) or writing posts like this very one. I already had improved this a while back, when I almost stopped using Twitter and Instagram during my commute, favoring books instead, even if fiction.

I also plan on reading a bit about creative writing, and maybe answer (or create) some writing prompts here on the blog. Maybe come up with ideas for a web comic and find someone to draw, while I sketch. Or even start playing Go again. Who knows?

Such productive, much improvement

While I see my read and watch lists grow and my FOMO starts to kick in, I realize that I’ll never be able to read and watch all the books, manga, anime and TV shows I want. So better accept that anyway and use my time in a way that’ll make me grow both professionally and personally. Right?
